Pietrykovka's paintings

Plates in Ukraine were painted as long ago as in XVIII century. At this time artists from the village of Pietrykovka began to decorate wooden ware, as well as different cases (small boxes). Decorative pattern is created by oil paints applied over the polished surface without preliminary background priming. Paints are mixed with a bit of lacquer. That is why they become transparent, and wooden structure becomes visible through them. Such original dishes were created in 1963.

Modern Pietrykovka's paintings are distinguished for their high graphical level, restraint pattern of colours (red, yellow, black) and ornamentality of the whole composition. This is a new modification of traditionally painted ware on the modern basis.
